The contents of the specialization focus are based on the criminal law-related contents of the diploma course in law and supplement, deepen and expand these with aspects that are particularly central and relevant to practice from a criminological perspective. This creates the necessary link between the dogmatic knowledge of substantive and formal criminal law and the "reality of crime" or the real manifestations of criminal and deviant behavior and the social and criminal justice response to this in practice.
This specialization therefore focuses in particular on theories of crime and criminalization, the person and the (social) environment of criminals and their victims, the function and effect of social control, possible reactions to crime and deviance (including considerations of the purpose of punishment, alternative forms of sanctions and the evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of punishments and sanctions) as well as the incidence and development of crime, its assessment and current manifestations of crime.
When teaching the content of this specialization, particular emphasis is placed on a strong practical orientation and the inclusion of the latest national and international research findings from the field of criminology and other criminal sciences.
